On Wednesday, the Election Commission scheduled a meeting to discuss the schedule of the upcoming 12th National Assembly elections. On the other hand, the commission has not made an official announcement about the schedule's arrival date.
Election Commission (EC) sources indicate that Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal might make the announcement in a speech to the country following tomorrow's 5 p.m. commission meeting. Additionally, the first week of January may see the election.
Regarding which political party will lead the country after the election, there is currently no agreement. The BNP has declared that it will not participate in the current government's elections. They are demanding the resignation of the government through a hartal and blockade program.
The Awami League is getting ready for voting. The leaders of the parties declare that the election will follow the constitution.
In such a circumstance, the US wrote the three parties yesterday, requesting an unconditional dialogue. The correspondence from US Assistant Secretary of State Donald Lu has been received by the BNP and Jatiya Party. The letter was not received by the Awami League yesterday. Not until 2:00 PM today was there an update on that.
Preceding the announcement of the National Assembly election schedule, the Election Commission typically convenes. Following that, the Chief Election Commissioner's speech was recorded for Bangladesh Television and Radio to air. That was a sermon delivered in the evening. That speech served as a virtual announcement of the schedule.
EC sources say that following tomorrow afternoon's Election Commission meeting at about 7 p.m., the Chief Election Commissioner's speech might air live on Bangladesh Television.
A mass rally program has been announced by the Bangladesh Islamic Movement towards the Election Commission in case the schedule is announced without political agreement.
The BNP, along with other political parties and coalitions involved in the concurrent movement, have declared that they will implement a rigorous agenda should the schedule be made public.
